Care and support The Shrubbery is a home in the true sense of the word: where families are invited to be involved, and this involvement is considered to be paramount to the care and wellbeing of the residents. At The Shrubbery, every resident's social, emotional, religious, cultural and political needs are fully accepted and respected. Each resident has a plan of care tailored to their own physical, social and psychological needs, and this is agreed with the resident, relatives and appropriate health care professionals. Care plans are reviewed every six months. Individuality is promoted by our caring and thoughtful staff. Residents are encouraged to keep control of their own lives and to exercise choice - what time to get up and go to bed, where and when they would like to take their meals; which clothes to wear; where they would like to spend their day; and whether they would like to participate in activities. Rules and regulations are kept to a minimum. Our open visiting policy means that friends, relatives and other visitors are welcome to visit at any time, although we do ask visitors to avoid meal times if at all possible. |
A wide range of activities, outings and events Our Activities Organiser looks after each resident's recreational needs. As well as helping residents pursue specific hobbies and interests, we also organise regular mobility classes, Bingo, quizzes, crafts and sing-alongs etc. We also arrange trips to places of interest when possible and when the weather allows. Entertainment (e.g. radio and TV) is available within the Home, and an extensive print library is available for residents' use in the quiet lounge.
|
Meals & catering We provide a varied and balanced diet; and we are always happy to accommodate residents' individual dietary requirements. In addition to the three main meals of the day, we also offer mid-afternoon drinks with biscuits, as well as an additional evening drinks or light supper if required. A range of hot or cold drinks are available at any time of the day.

Hairdressing and other services Together with visiting specialists, we offer a range of services to residents. Our care staff can wash and set hair as and when required, and a profesional hair dresser visits once a week (charges may apply). Other services such as chiropody, as well as a full complement of healthcare arrangements are also available. We are pleased to organise other services each resident requires on an appointment basis. Mail is delivered by Royal Mail, and is forwarded to your room as soon as possible after delivery. Outgoing mail can be given to a staff member or a relative to post. Daily newspapers can be delivered to the home for your personal uses (charges apply). |
Fully trained and caring staff The Shrubbery Nursing Home provides twenty-four hour nursing care under a highly qualified and experienced matron and a competent staff of R.G.N. and S.E.N. qualified nurses and care assistants. The team have recently achieved a Quality Assurance Award given by the Social Services. We have our own local GP, but residents wishing to continue treatment with their own doctor may do so if still within the same catchment area. |
Comprehensive healthcare arrangements At the Shrubbery we can offer care for a wide range of medical conditions, for example: diabetes, CVA, MS; and we can manage Urinary Catheters, PEG feeds, Stomas and syringe drivers. Our team of highly trained nurses and carers are on duty day and night to care for your needs. Information about your care and treatment will be strictly confidential and will not be divulged without your consent. There are rare circumstances where confidentiality cannot be maintained, but then information will only be shared with other people and agencies on a “need to know” basis. It is not always possible to retain your own GP; if this is the case then we will help you register with a local surgery of your choice. Should you already be taking prescribed medication please bring it with you on admission. You are entirely free to retain, where possible, your current Dentist, Optician, Physiotherapist, or we can help find another one of your choice. Regular visits are made by our Occupational Therapist and Chiropodist. If you receive the services under the NHS you should continue to do so. However if you decide to register as a private patient with any of these services, you will be responsible for payment of the appropriate charges. Complementary medicine may be arranged if desired. |
